Paolo’s TMT Picks 16 July: Sky Goes Live on CityFibre Network and Disney+ Signs Cross Carriage deal with ITV
Here are my latest picks covering different aspects in connectivity, consumer and content with key lessons and implications.
Welcome to Paolo's TMT Picks Gazzetta - 16 July, 2025.
Sky launches a new 5 Gbps Full Fibre speed on CityFibre’s network, as well as unveiling the new WiFi 7 hub - This is not a major game-changer. I still believe it is a huge blow to VMO2. A significant win for CityFibre, along with newly secured funding, providing the altnet with the opportunity to grow in a dysfunctional UK fixed-line market.
Disney and ITV announced what the parties stated is a pioneering strategic partnership that is essentially a cross-carriage arrangement of each other’s streaming services - The tie-up quickly follows Netflix’s partnership with TF1 in France. Interestingly, neither player is a market leader in the UK, and by joining forces, they will have a better chance of maintaining their relevance in the streaming video market.
Other companies/organisations mentioned include: BT, Comcast, Netflix, Openreach, TF1, Virgin Media (VMO2), and VodafoneThree.
