IFA 2024, which is being held at the Messe Berlin from 6-10 September, is the late summer counterweight to the year-opening CES show in Las Vegas. CES is arguably more influential in the way that it very much sets the consumer electronics agenda and mood music for the year. IFA Berlin is bigger though. IFA 2023 hosted 182,000 attendees last September, whereas CES 2024 only managed 135,000 (though from more countries).  This definitely gives IFA the right to call itself ‘The world's largest consumer and electronics show’. Its location in the German engine room of the European economy and its proximity to other major markets, such as the Middle East, ensures there is always plenty of interest.

IFA’s modern rebranding

As with CES, I will be on the show floor reporting back on all the innovation on display. It is a special edition too, as IFA Berlin celebrates its 100th anniversary with a major rebrand to its name and logo. As well as unveiling a new slogan, Innovation for All, the organisers are putting on several events, including a special art exhibition, to celebrate. The choice of Bryan Adams to headline the Sommergarten Stage and celebrate the IFA kick-off on 5 September is perhaps not the most progressive option. However, the Canadian rocker always puts on a good show and the expense of hiring him at least signals confidence in the market.

Companies mentioned include: Alef, Apple, Garmin, Google, Hisense, Honor, Intel, LG, Oura, Qualcomm, Samsung, TCL, and Withings.
