Apple Overhauls iPad Range and Introduces M4 Chip
Apple started to move AI to the centre of its 2024 and beyond strategy as it gave its iPad range the largest updates since launching in 2010.
Tim Cook billed yesterday’s Apple Let Loose event as “The biggest day for iPad since its introduction.”
By holding a dedicated and standalone event for iPad, it reinforces the importance Apple is placing on this category. The new line-up includes significant improvements that will appeal to a broad range of users, consumers and businesses alike. Apple is further stealing a march and raising the bar much higher for its rivals. Importantly, this comes at a time when current iPad owners will be looking for an upgrade.
In short, this is a pivotal moment as Apple seeks to give this segment a major boost amidst declining quarterly sales YoY. It also brings it a final step closer to ditching the laptop altogether given the slew of new features and AI-powered capabilities it is introducing.
While rivals have been touting their AI capabilities, Apple has a proven pedigree and has been working in AI for a long time (its Neural Engine AI processor was first introduced in 2017). Apple is now demonstrating its AI prowess with the new redesigned iPad Pro powered by Apple silicon and the transformative M4 chipset. This new premium chipset will be a big draw among users and developers.

Apple’s newly redesigned iPad Pro now comes in two sizes, 11-inch and 13-inch, and marks the debut of the company’s latest M4 chip, the first time iPad has led the way with the deployment of new Apple silicon.
